Yes, you read that correctly.. it looks as if the long awaited 5.56 / .223 silencer from Dead Air has been leaked and dealers are able to join a waitlist by the end of this month (5/27/22).
Why is it such a big deal for Dead Air?
Dead Air has a large hold on the hush hush market given that KeyMo (DA’s quick attach mounting adapter) has been widely adopted by many 2A enthusiasts and is, what a lot of people would say, “the standard” in quick attach mounts. That being said, Dead Air had never made a 5.56 specific suppressor, leaving anyone who wanted a dedicated 5.56 silencer having to run a SOCOM556 RC2, YHM Turbo T2, or a .30 cal can (which are not bad choices). The silencer manufacture’s popularity and quality of work shows that they are a leader in the space, and finally the Sierra-5 suppressor helps fill a largely anticipated (dedicated 5.56) gap in their suppressor lineup.
So what do the specs look like?
The Sierra-5 is running Stellite baffles which is an extremely tough and corrosion resistant material, even more so than stainless steel or Inconel baffles. Suppressors that have Stellite are typically able to be run on shorter barreled guns and at a higher rate of fire. This is one of the reasons it has no barrel restrictions.

Dead Air Sierra-5 Specs and Mounting Options
The new 5.56 silencer will be offered with the two standard Dead Air mounting systems, Xeno and KeyMo. Running the Xeno adapter makes for a 0.55″ shorter and 2.1oz lighter setup vs the KeyMo adapter. Although most people prefer the KeyMo for the speed of attaching and detaching when needed. (we certainly do)

About the leak…
The leak came from someone finding a few pages on Dead Air’s website including the Sierra-5 Assets page under the category “/Pre-Launch/”. Other images and information were leaked from DA’s dealers that received the information earlier this week.
The leaked images states:

Featuring the proven winning combination of welded Stellite baffles wrapped in a stainless outer tube, the Sierra-5 boasts a clean and utilitarian knurled design that provides both function and form.”

The Sierra-5 is Dead Air’s first ever 5.56/.223 caliber suppressor released in 2022. It features stellite baffles wrapped in a 17-4 PH stainless steel outer tube, with no barrel restrictions and can be used with HUB compatible (1.375-24) mounting adapters (KeyMo or Xeno).
The Dead Air Sierra-5 has an energy rating of 2,200 ft lbs.
